Aluminium Respirable Dust Cyclone

The Aluminium Cyclone is small and lightweight, and eliminates adverse electrostatic effects, allowing the cyclone to sample particles more efficiently. It is used by inserting it into the middle ring of an open-face three-piece cassette loaded with an appropriate filter, which collects the respirable particles but larger particles fall into the grit pot to be discarded. Available in 25 mm and 37 mm versions the Aluminium Cyclone provides sharp size selection for the respirable fraction. It is specified in the NIOSH Method 7500 for silica and NIOSH 0600 for respirable particulates. It has a 50% cut-point of 4 µm at 2.5 L/min and 3.5 µm at 2.8 L/min.

Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM) Cyclone

The Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM) Cyclone has been specially designed with an extended retaining ring and special sealing to securely hold the SKC DPM cassettes. Small and lightweight, it is constructed from conductive plastic to prevent the buildup of electrostatic effects. It operates at 2 L/min with a DPM cassette and includes a grit pot, retaining ring and a clip for fitting to a worker's clothing.

DPM Cassette

The DPM Cassette is designed for sampling in atmospheres where it is necessary to separate DPM from other respirable dust, such as coal dust. The single use cassettes are tamper-evident sealed to ensure sample integrity. It provides optimum DPM collection efficiency, and has been evaluated at 1.7 L/min in metal/non-metal mines and 2 L/min in coal mines; flow rates are used by MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration, USA).

Each streamlined plastic cassette comprises an impactor with precision sapphire orifice, impaction substrate and two heat-treated quartz filters. The impactor screens out respirable particles ≥1.0 µm. Particles <1.0 µm are collected on the filter. It meets the NIOSH 5040 specifications for organic and elemental carbon analysis.

Alternative Method - DPM Cassette without Impactor

Also available is a DPM Cassette without an impactor; a more economical solution when sampling in environments without coal dust or other interfering respirable dusts. The cassette is mounted in a holder for securing to a worker's clothing.

IOM Sampler

The IOM Multidust sampler is the preferred sampler for HSE Method MDHS 14/4. The patented IOM Sampler houses a reusable 25 mm filter cassette that holds a specified filter for the collection of inhalable particles. When attached to a personal sampling pump operating at 2 L/min and clipped near a worker's breathing zone, the IOM effectively traps particles up to 100 µm in aerodynamic diameter. This collection method closely simulates the manner in which airborne workplace particles are inhaled through the nose and mouth. Both the plastic cassette and the filter are pre- and post-weighed as a single unit for gravimetric analysis.

IFV Pro Sampler

The SKC IFV (Inhalable Fraction and Vapour) Pro Sampler is used for simultaneously collecting mixed-phase contaminants such as pesticides, polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), inorganic acids, and explosives. Sampling mixed-phase contaminants is challenging because the vapour and aerosol distribution is constantly changing. IFV Pro overcomes the technical issues of competing models with its IOM-style inlet for true inhalable sampling, use of a 25 mm filter (instead of 13 mm filter) for lower back pressure, and use at 1 L/min to provide lower limits of detection.

IFV Pro Sampling Train

  • True inhalable fraction and vapour sampling simultaneously
    • Collects aerosol phase on a 25 mm filter using IOM-style inlet
    • Collects vapour phase in a 8 mm OD x 110 mm length sorbent tube
    • Applications and media are shown under the Sorbent Selection Guide and also in the Datasheet below
  • IOM-style inlet sized for 1 L/min flow for true inhalable sampling
  • Recommended 1 L/min flow rate allows for effective collection of both contaminant phases
  • Meets European Standard EN 13936 by collecting the total of vapour and aerosol exposures

ACGIH IFV Designation

ACGIH has assigned a TLV with Inhalable Fraction and Vapour (IFV) designation to over 50 compounds that exert sufficient vapour pressure such that the contaminant may be present in both particle and vapour phases, with each phase contributing a significant portion of the dose. IFV Pro allows for efficient sampling of compounds with this designation (see datasheet or selection guide below), or compounds found in mixed phases due to work activities or processes.
