Full Disclosure Kit

SKC Full Disclosure® wipe sampling provides instant detection of lead on skin and surfaces.

Applications

  • Identifying presence of lead and confirming decontamination by retesting
  • Ensuring effectiveness of hand and skin washing for individuals exposed to lead (e.g. shooting ranges)
  • Determining the effectiveness of lead removal

How It Works

The test surface, i.e. skin, safety glasses, tables, workbenches, shoes, etc. is wiped with a wipe to collect lead that may be present. The mildly acidic aqueous solution is then sprayed onto the wipe to solubilise the lead, and then the aqueous rhodizonate test reagent is sprayed onto the wipe to produce the results. If solubilised lead is present, a pink to red colour bloom will appear immediately. The intensity of the colour bloom can indicate the relative amount of lead present. Positive wipes can be sent to a laboratory for quantitative analysis if desired.

Each Full Disclosure Kit includes everything needed to detect lead at 18 µg on skin and surface and contains:

  • 11 pairs of nitrile gloves
  • 10 pre-packaged wipes (conforming to ASTM E1792)
  • Disclosing Powder
  • Extraction Solution
  • Deionised water for preparing Developing Solution*
  • 10 sheets waxed paper
  • Complete instructions

* Deionised water needs to be chilled in an ice bath or refrigerator before preparation of the Developing Solution. See the instructions for more information.

Note: Full Disclosure was developed to detect the presence of elemental lead and some lead salts. The extraction solution will not solubilise all lead salts. Full Disclosure is suitable for elemental lead, lead nitrate, lead sulphate, and lead oxide. Full Disclosure will not detect lead chromate or alkyl lead. Full Disclosure is not intended to detect lead in paint, paint chips, on painted surfaces, or embedded in material such as plastic.

PERMEA-TEC Pads

Toxic chemicals such as pesticides, aromatic amines, and isocyanates can permeate gloves and protective clothing. Wide variations in the chemical resistance of gloves and protective clothing compositions make protective equipment selection difficult - especially if using mixtures of chemicals in the workplace. Gloves are flexed, stretched, pressured and abraded in use which can cause premature chemical breakthrough and alter reliance on ASTM laboratory breakthrough data. PERMEA-TEC pads should be used for initial evaluation of a new glove. They are worn under gloves during actual field use and show the point at which breakthrough occurs. This information enables the safety professional to select a glove that will perform optimally in terms of protection, employee acceptance, and cost effectiveness. PERMEA-TEC pads are sensitive to 3 to 5 µg for aromatic amines and isocyanates. Solvent PERMEA-TEC pads also contain a charcoal pad for GC analysis.

The PERMEA-TEC pads should be placed on thumb, middle finger and palm with the pad side facing out before donning the gloves. These locations represent areas where the highest degree of contact and abrasion occur. The pads should be checked hourly for breakthrough.

Wipe Sample Test Kit

The Wipe Sample Test Kit provides the necessary supplies to sample surfaces for toxic materials that can gain entry into the body via ingestion or skin absorption.

Ghost Wipes

Robust Ghost Wipes hold together even when used on the roughest surfaces. In the lab, Ghost Wipes readily and completely dissolve during digestion for maximum recovery of target analyte(s) - there is no messy fibrous material to clog the sample uptake capillary or nebuliser. Ghost Wipes are included in the Wipe Sample Test Kit (part number 225-2401A).

The methods listed below contain the full details of how to use and analyse the Ghost Wipes.
